Identify promising salts
One of the first strategies to improve the aqueous solubility of a poorly soluble drug substance is – when possible – to make salts of your API. The salt screening program searches and identifies salts which may be more attractive development candidates compared to the free form.

Overview of studies:

  • Determination of pKa profile of the API
  • Conduct salt-forming experiments with all feasible counterions
  • State of the art Characterization tools: Raman, X-ray powder diffraction and infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and microscopy
  • Evaluation of degree of solubility, crystallinity, chemical purity, stability and hygroscopicity.
  • Rank-ordering of physical stability and suitability of salt forms as the API from which final dosage forms are manufactured
