Request a quotePharmaceutical Profiling For Lead Selection
Objectives
a) Our Survey service evaluates the pharmaceutical properties of your poorly soluble compounds. This information allows you to identify compounds with properties that are easier and less expensive to develop. At the same time, it also helps you avoid wasting time and money on compounds that will be difficult to develop
b) For each compound, we identify if straightforward strategies can be used in pre-clinical development or whether specialist techniques are needed to improve solubility and bioavailability
c) If there are specific technical difficulties that need to be tackled before or during pre-clinical development, we’ll flag them up
Background
You have a series of promising candidates that show exciting in vitro biological activity but you want to make sure this potential is realized when your lead compound is taken into in vivo testing. You want to select a lead candidate which has great efficacy but won’t cause you incurable headaches during pre-clinical and development. Decision making is tricky because the IP clock is ticking and time is limited. To make matters worse, compound availability is in short supply. For the future health of your business, making the right decision is critical and should not be left to chance. Survey can help you set off on the right path.
Strategy
Using small quantities of each compound, Survey profiles the key parameters underpinning the development of your compounds. Armed with this knowledge, we seek out the best possible options to deliver your compound. The options we provide range from basic approaches to highly specialist techniques.
Openness and transparency lie at heart of the Phares 360 philosophy. When you use Survey, you’ll be working closely with a team of experienced developers who will provide you with expert, but frank, interpretation. The end result is that we can supply systematically developed test materials for you to evaluate for in vivo bioavailability testing within 3 weeks. Survey’s findings are supported by reports that give an impartial evaluation of the different promising approaches and guidance for the further development of your compound.
Survey is offered as fee for service.
Equipment
- The ‘Phares Survey Zone’ is the area of our lab where the majority of the Survey work is carried out. This area is dedicated to assessing poorly soluble compounds which facilitates a rapid comparison of results under one roof
- We use Swiss-engineered equipment specifically designed to examine poorly soluble compounds. The accuracy and precision this gives us allows results to be compared back to back without variation
- We use special techniques developed in-house which allow us to locate leads within 2 weeks and complete the Survey within 3 weeks
Technologies
The selection of technologies we utilize is governed by the physicochemical characteristics of the compounds. Depending upon the nature of the compound, Survey explores how counter ions, pH, crystal forms, delivery approaches and excipients can influence the delivery of your compound.
We recommend focusing efforts mainly on crystalline and solubilized delivery at this early stage. Crystalline is the preferred form to solubilized. However, if neither option looks promising then amorphous forms can be explored as an alternative.
Generally, these delivery options are explored in less depth than during pre-clinical and early clinical development. However, a sufficiently broad selection of diverse strategies is studied allowing you to map out how easy or difficult the compound is to take forward.
The studies are not carried out as a HTS. We find the results have to be sufficiently precise enough for you not to have to repeat the same studies later on. This saves you time and money.
Time Frame
- Report within 3 weeks
- Supply of Test vehicles 1 week after report
You Need Survey If…
- You have a selection of compounds to choose from but are unsure which one is best to develop
- You have research compounds that you want to take forward but are unfamiliar with the technical issues poor solubility presents
- You want to know which issues you are likely to face when your poorly soluble compound has been selected and how they can be resolved
- You want to minimize the risk of selecting a problem compound that will stretch your financial and technical resource
