SupraVail® Membrane Lipid Matrix (MLM) from Phares taps into the powerful solubilization powers of phospholipids for compounds with poor aqueous solubility.
The phospholipids in the SupraVail® Membrane Lipid Matrix come from natural sources, like soy beans and egg yolks. As natural bio-molecules, phospholipids are perfect biological solubilizers. Amphipathic in function, phospholipids have both a lipophilic, hydrophobic domain, as well as a hydrophilic region. This permits phospholipids to associate with lipophilic or hydrophobic active compounds and at the same time to be dispersed in aqueous media, without precipitation.
Not only are mono and diacylphospholipids powerful natural solubilizers, they are also suitable for modern pharmaceutical applications. The phospholipids used in the SupraVail® Membrane Lipid Matrix are produced according to strict cGMP pharmaceutical quality standards by one of the world's leading manufacturers of pharmaceutical grade phospholipids, Lipoid GmbH, in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Lipoid's phospholipids are already used in a wide range of approved pharmaceutical products. As an example, patients on Total Parenteral Nutrition can receive at least 15 g phospholipids intravenously per day, depending on their body weight and caloric needs. This demonstrates the low toxicity and high tolerability of phospholipids, even for intravenous applications. Phospholipids are Generally Recognised as Safe (GRAS) by the FDA and are classified as lecithins in most monographs.
